Land & Air Activities at Kaikoura.

Activity Operators

Abseiling.  abseiling
  Coastal rock outcrops and some inland rock faces make ideal rock climbing and abseiling sites.
 

Arts & Crafts. 
  Local artists are recognised more and more throughout New Zealand for their high standard of creativity and design. Crafts as diverse as wood & bone carving, pottery, photography and the unique art of gilding with real gold leaf can be seen.

Bird Watching. 
  A large variety of bird life can be found around Kaikoura, some species of which are very rare. Bird life can be viewed during a casual walk along the shore or in the surrounding countryside. Tours are available to view the more inaccessible Land, Lake & Ocean Birds.  (See wildlife) 

Caves. 
  Formed many thousands of years ago by the sea the cavecave formations has some fine examples of the rare straw stalactites.

Farm Tours. 
  Spend time on a farm and see sheep dogs in action, sheep shearing & wool handling, cattle, deer, etc. The true rural New Zealand. 

Four Wheeler Safaris 
  Four wheeler motorbike and argo adventures, coastal and farmland safaris are offered.4wd trip

Four Wheel Driving
There are many coastal, river bed or mountain tracks in the area
offering trips from easy to real challenging.

Fly. 
  Learn to fly with the Aero Club.

Fyffe House. 
  One of the first European buildings in Kaikoura and built in 1860,
Fyffe House still stands on it's whale bone piles. Visitors welcome.

Fyffe House Area. 
  A variety of interesting historic objects and sights in the Fyffe House area.

Garden Visits. 
  There are many gardens worthy of a visit in the area.
 
Golf.  watching seals
  A pleasant few hours can be spent on an excellent 18-hole golf course situated alongside State Highway 1, just south of Kaikoura. 

Guided walks. 
  Trips ranging from beach & cliff top nature walks to bush walks.

Hang Gliding and Parapenting. 
  The hills and mountains in the surrounding district provide updrafts for all levels of experience. 

Horse Treks. 
  There a variety of horse treks, ranging from seashore to farmland, lake shore and bushy hill country to choose from. 

Hunting.  stag
  Hunters can find Red Deer, Chamois, Pigs, Possums and goats in the mountains. Permits must be obtained from the Department of Conservation. 

Kaikoura Museum. 
  A wealth of information on subjects ranging from early Maori settlement to recent events. Displays are varied and interesting with items such as the wheel house off the wrecked "S.S.Taiaroa", an old jail house, Maori artifacts and whaling relics.

Mountain Biking. 
  Kaikoura is a mountain biker's paradise. Beginners can ride up the scenic Puhi Puhi and Blueduck Valleys while the more adventurous may tackle rides like Mount Fyffe, or the Kahutara Saddle in to the Clarence Valley.

Scenic Flights.  alpine scene
  Awesome views of scenery ranging from the township and coastal panoramas to the spectacular sights of the often snow covered mountains from nearly 3000 metres. Scenic and whale watching trips can be combined for the ultimate flight of a lifetime. 

Sightseeing
Visit local places of historic and scenic interest.

Skydiving
For the more adventurous there is the chance to get the best unobstructed views available of Kaikoura at the same time as feeling a total sense of freedom while tandem skydiving.
